Table TennisFebruary Report

Hellifield Hotshots continued their successful run in the Keighley & District T.T. League with victories in the 3rd Division league matches as follows:

Ilkley Fastbats “C” 6 – 4
St Wilfs “A” 7 – 3
Haworth Penguins 7 – 3

They also beat Haworth Robins 7 – 3, but the Haworth team has since withdrawn from the league, so all their results are null and void.

Particularly noteworthy was the victory over 3rd Division league leaders Haworth Penguins which avenged Hellifield’s only defeat in the league.

John Flitcroft has maintained his 100% singles record in the league with 42 consecutive wins. Bill Wright has 14 wins from 15 games, Ben Lee 14 from 33, Sam Wright 11 from 24, Joe Dillon 5 from 9 and Brandon Kowalski 0 from 3. Hellifield have 14 consecutive wins in the Doubles

Hellifield will play either Ilkley Rd “B” or Ilkley Fastbats “B”, both from the 2nd Division, in the semi final.

The League’s Annual Closed Tournament took place at the Keighley Table Tennis Centre on Sunday 21st February.

John Flitcroft was Hellifield’s only representative and he reached the final of the Men’s singles handicap competition losing to Tony Boyd of Embassy 37 pts to 42.

He was knocked out in the Men’s singles 2nd rd by the eventual winner Peter Holbrook of Lothersdale Nomads “B”, 3 games to 1.

In the Vets singles, he lost in the quarter final round.

Unfortunately, the early morning snow kept some competitors away including John’s doubles partner, so John was one of a number who was scratched for this competition!
