Report for 2009
What have we achieved?
Our main improvement this year has been to install new double glazed windows to the main hall. These were needed to replace some rotten wooden frames and to provide better heat insulation for the main building.
We have also improved the storage available for some of the smaller groups who use the institute to allow them to keep some resources on site.
We have removed the payphone to reduce costs but provided a pay-as-you-go mobile for the playgroup. This will save almost £300 per year.
Our thanks to:
- Hellifield Parish Council for the grant of £1,000 towards the cost of the new windows
- Craven District Council for the grant of £1,000 towards the cost of the new windows
- Rural Action Yorkshire for £1600 towards lighting and other sport related developments
- All those who have joined the 200 club and whose membership helped fund the balance of the window costs
- All those volunteers who help to run events activities and clubs at the institute
- To Brian and Phyllis Capstic for their caretaking and cleaning
- All those who make use of the institute
What are our next targets?
- To redecorate the upper part of the main hall, toilets, store and front entrance
- To establish the annex as the main entrance with the front as fire emergency exit
- Replace the portable stage – the existing one no longer meets our Health and Safety requirements
- Improve the kitchen
- In conjunction with Hellifield Playgroup who have received appropriate grants we hope to fit new external doors to the Yorke Room and improve the outside play area and storage.
Our funding in 2009
We are reviewing the way in which we record our accounts in such a way as to make it easier to give a broad outline in future annual reports. Our accounts are submitted each year to the Charity Commission and can be checked on their website. Our accounts run from 1st January to 31 December each year.
Our funding comes from four main sources: income from lettings to groups and individuals; membership of the 200 club; institute run coffee mornings; grants.
Our main expenditure includes: caretaking/cleaning; insurance and safety inspections; utility bills; repairs and maintenance.
In 2009 our total expenditure was £18,350.67 funded from sources listed above. In our next annual report we will itemise capital expenditure and revenue costs and show a clearer income breakdown in addition to the grants listed.
